2020 Charities
The Wheels ‘n Windmills Car Show was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic
After a very successful 2019 Car Show, we are pleased to announce that we broke our previous record for total amount given to charity from one event. This year we donated $22,000 from the proceeds of the event and $20,000 to the high school auto shop programs from the V8 Engine/Transmission raffle for a grand total of $42,000.
We divided the event proceed between five different charities and the raffle proceeds were donated to Santa Ynez Valley and Santa Maria High School auto shop programs.
Happy Endings Animal Sanctuary
$8,000 was donated to cover veterinary expenses for 2020.
Boy Scouts of America, Venture Crew 154
$4,500 was donated to cover the cost for uniforms and misc. outdoor gear. This expense is not covered by the Boy Scouts of America organization.
Hacienda O’Holland Animal Rescue
$3,500 was donated to cover related costs for rescue, rehab, and adoption of animals.
Nature Track
$3,500 was donated to cover costs for field trips.
National Progeria Research Foundation
We continued our support for the Progeria Research Foundation to find a cure for the disease that causes rapid aging of children by donating $2,500. This is our tenth year donating to this charity and we are proud to continue providing funds toward finding a cure.
Submission of application to FDA for lonafarnib approval has begun!
We’re thrilled to announce a milestone in our mission to treat and cure children with Progeria: In partnership with The Progeria Research Foundation, Eiger BioPharmaceuticals has submitted to the FDA the first part of its application seeking approval of the drug lonafarnib as a treatment for Progeria.
This first-ever submission is the culmination of twelve years of research data and four PRF-funded clinical trials in partnership with Brown University, Boston Children’s Hospital, and Brigham & Women’s Hospital, and made possible by the courageous children and their families, as well as YOU – PRF’s wonderful community of donors.
You can read more about this exciting news here.
Eiger BioPharmaceuticals will submit completed portions of the application for FDA review on an ongoing basis, with plans to finish the submission in the first quarter of the new year. Approval will enable these children and young adults to access lonafarnib – which has been shown to give them stronger hearts and longer lives – by prescription, instead of through our clinical trials, in the US and possibly in other countries as well.
What a positive way to end 2019, and start the New Year strong! We have worked tirelessly to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children and young adults with Progeria, and this submission brings us closer to that goal.
Zoey and Carly receive their lonafarnib treatment at Boston Children’s Hospital during their clinical trial visit.
THANK YOU ALL for supporting the research that not only has brought us to this pivotal point, but also allows us to continue working to discover new drugs that will ultimately cure these extraordinary children.
As the year comes to a close, please help PRF continue the quest for a cure:
